Tuesday Teaser!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you've been following along on my blog tour for A Tangled Legacy. Aside from the exclusive excerpts and some Q & A there's a $25.00 Amazon gift card up for grabs. This week started off at Queer Sci Fi and Happily Ever Chapter and continues on until Friday 8/24. Be sure to stop by Bayou Book Junkie where I'll be posting a deleted NSFW snippet of Prince Sebastian and his consort Errol having a "moment".

 8/20 - Queer Sci Fi
8/24 - Bayou Book Junkie

Today's teaser takes us to the Seychelles when Colin and Alain have escaped for a holiday.

After much cajoling on my part, Alain finally relented, and we left Biarritz with no fail-safe in place. A couple of hours into our trip, the trench between Alain’s eyebrows disappeared, and he reluctantly admitted that relinquishing control for two weeks might not be such a bad thing. I might have sealed the deal with a leisurely hand job while we huddled underneath a blanket in the secluded bedroom.
Now, in the dawning light of day, with an island paradise sprawled ahead, I was euphoric. Even if Alain and I ended up parting ways at the end of the summer—a thought too horrible to contemplate but rooted in reality—I would always have the memories of this special time to comfort me.
“It looks just like Jack described,” Alain’s quiet voice sounded in my ear. “He said it was heavenly.”
“I’m dying to explore. Can we leave the unpacking until much later?”
“Anything you want,” he said warmly. “This is as much your vacation as it is mine.”
The arrival area for private jets was tiny but efficient. There was one official who gave our passports a cursory glance, and no one bothered to inspect our luggage. We were done in record time, and after thanking our pilot and arranging for the return trip in two weeks, we walked into the sunlight and boarded the waiting Jeep, which would take us to our accommodations at the Hillcrest Villas located on the northwest side of the island. Although it was a bit of a hike, privacy was paramount, and we’d been assured the area was exclusive and only occupied by a few other guests. In addition, the higher elevation would mean a drop in temperature thanks to seasonal trade winds.
As we drove through the capital city of Victoria, the driver dutifully pointed out architectural landmarks and other points of interest. After hours in a climate-controlled plane, my body was reacting to the sweltering heat. I could feel moisture pooling in my pits and groin, and drops of sweat dotted my nose and forehead. We’d been warned that summer wasn’t an ideal time to visit as temps were high with humidity factors in the eighty percentiles, but weather hadn’t been our priority. The air conditioner in the car wasn’t doing much to cool me off, so I rolled down the window, hoping to catch a breeze. Instead, a waft of cooked food redolent with unfamiliar spices seeped through, reminding me that our last meal had been hours ago. Alain sniffed the air like a curious cat and turned to me with wide eyes.
“What is it?”
“There’s magic in the air,” he pronounced.
“You can tell by inhaling?”
Alain nodded. “It’s unfamiliar but ancient and powerful. I can actually picture a few people gathered around a fire pit.”
“Sheesh, all I’m picking up is the delicious smell of food.”
Alain laughed. “I’m hungry too.”
“Let’s hope we’ll find a well-stocked larder at our rental.”
“They promised we’d have everything we need and then some.”
“I wonder if I can learn anything from these local witches.”
“Patience, mon chaton. We need to work on the basics before we delve any deeper.”
Chaton? Calling me his kitten wasn’t much by way of endearments, but I treasured the implication. Alain’s reluctance to embrace his feelings for me had been falling away in tiny increments, and although I was less experienced in matters of the heart, I knew we were moving in the right direction.
